Hierarchy & terminology
"Location" is a broad term, and can refer to something as large as a continent, or as small as a section of a hill. Refer to the following definitions:
- Continent
- This refers to the all-encompassing world map. In FHX, the two continents are Glorious Imperial Territory (V1) and Idios (V3).
- Region
- A broad area composed of several zones. Usually, there is a common theme within the zone, such as common monsters, terrain, color palettes, etc. Regions are separated by impassable terrain or invisible walls, the only exits via portals or open passage to the connecting region. An example would be Foggy, which includes Silent Woods, Midland, and Windy Valley.
- Zone
- A zone is the actual open world map that players can explore. Each region can be made up of multiple zones.
- Area
- A subsection of a zone that is identified by name. The shape and size of an area is variable, typically linked to a prominent feature. Areas can be a physical part of the zone it resides in, or only accessible via a portal. For example, Dead Man's Holyland is an area within Silent Woods, and ARENA NAME is a level 30-35 arena area accessed through a portal in Palmas. This also includes towns and cities with notable NPCs.
- Landmark
- Landmarks are physical objects within the world, like portals or bindstones.
