This article will explain the formatting practices and processes with regards to the documentation of locations. This is merely a recommended guideline. Other writers will come along to fill in the blanks or clean up any mistakes.

Hierarchy & terminology

Primary article: Location

Location is a broad term, and can refer to something as large as a continent, or as small as a section of a hill. Refer to the following definitions:

Continent
This refers to the all-encompassing landmass that the game takes place, ROG (continent).
Province
This refers to the world maps. In FHX, the two provinces are Glorious Imperial Territory (V1) and Idios (V3).
Region / Zone
A broad explorable location composed of smaller areas, cities, and instances. Usually, there is a common theme within the zone, such as common monsters, terrain, color palettes, etc. Regions are separated by terrain features or invisible walls, the only exits are through portals or an open passage to the connecting region. An example would be Silent Woods (zone), which includes Dead Man's Holyland (area).
Area
A subsection of a zone that is identified by name. The shape and size of an area is variable, typically linked to a prominent feature. Areas can be a physical part of the zone it resides in, or only accessible via a portal. For example, Dead Man's Holyland is an area within Silent Woods, and Valley of Blood is a level 20-25 instanced arena area accessed through a portal outside Midland Port city.
Landmark / Point of interest
Landmarks/POI are physical objects or features within the world, like portals, bindstones, or camps.
